The Natural World: A Cause for Celebration & Christian Concern

Date: 06 October 2007
Location: Westfield United Reformed Church
Address: West Street, Bridgwater TA6 7HD
Time: 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

Climate change and the implications for ecology and the environment have become major news stories over the past years. We are all challenged to think about what sort of life we are creating and what is important to pass on for future generations. This study day is being organised by the Justice & Peace Group of St Joseph's, Bridgwater and aims to provide an opportunity for participants to appreciate the wonder of our natural world; to be better informed about the impact of global warming and to consider our personal response.

Top speakers will lead this important day.

Mary Colwell is a producer at the BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol and a popular speaker on the environment. For Mary, care of the environment is a moral issue; as a Catholic she argues that faiths, and particularly the Christian faith, should take a lead on the subject of global warming and environmental issues. Mary will lead the morning session and help us to consider the 'bigger picture'.

Dr Pat Hill Cottingham is a professional ecologist and speaker on all environment issues. As a manager of a nature reserve, she is becoming increasingly alarmed at the consequences of global warming to wildlife and highlights problems associated with local changing weather patterns, their effects on wildlife and future crop production. Somerset is particularly vulnerable with its low-lying farms and the ecologically important Levels & Moors. Suggestions of what we can do at local level will be discussed.

During the day there will be time for sharing with others and for questions.

Tea and coffee will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. Parking is available at the venue. Donations towards expenses would be appreciated.
